A year after the publication of the English edition, at least 10 translations or adaptations of the American best-seller was edited in France. The introduction of George Sand appeared in the edition translated and annotated by Léon Pilatte, proposed as 'très complète' and printed in 1853 by Librairie Nouvelle.
