AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED ('Morgan'), to 'dearest Raymond' [Mortimer, 1895-1980], thanking him for his charming confection and gift [his book Queen Victoria: Leaves from a Journal. A Record of the Visit of the Emperor and Empress of the French to the Queen and of the Visit of the Queen and H.R.H. The Prince Consort to the Emperor of the French, 1855, published in 1961], both of which he has appreciated greatly, especially liking Victoria as a hostess and finding her more weighty when 'she has it out with the Emperor about the Orleans'; he says he read 'rather mischievously, of course, "the Zouaves - splendid troop in splendid dress, the friends of my dear Guards"' ('...caught my eye. Did they yours? And did she when they got out "pour nous arranger un peu" on reaching Boulogne...'), and refers to news from Dadie [Rylands, 1902-1999, literary scholar and theatre director, Fellow of King's] telling him that Mortimer was still making do with continental staff, 2 pages, octavo, King's College, Cambridge, 26 August 1961
