AUTOGRAPHS. A collection of approximately 105 letters by members of the European nobility, ministers and officials, mostly 1750-1845 (the names of the signatories all beginning with the letter 'S', from Salm Dyck to Soubise), together with address leaves, printed armorials and portraits, tipped on to pages numbered 1-199 (a few letters extracted), annotations in pencil, descriptive notes loosely inserted, in an album entitled (on spine) 'State Papers, Autographs and Portraits Eminent Persons in Foreign History 1600 - 1847'; mid-19th-century English morocco gilt, the covers with gilt armorial of Napoleon III and decorated with gilt bee tools, roll-tooled borders in gilt and blind, metal fore edge clasp, the spine gilt in compartments, lettered in 3, the upper and lower compartments with crowned 'N' within a laurel wreath, gilt edges (extremities rubbed causing minor losses, occasional scuffing), 460 x 290 mm . The letters are signed by eminent persons, mostly French, also Italian, Portuguese, German and Austrian, including Prince and Princess Salm Dyck, Eusebio Salverte, Simon van Slingeland (Grand Pensionary of Holland), Count Horace Sebastiani (general and diplomat) and others including ministers, officials, diplomats, deputies, editors etc., generally on official matters. Apparently one volume from a large collection probably assembled in England.
