BABE RUTH "HEADIN' HOME" POSTER An original 1921 Japanese poster of Babe Ruth in the movie Headin' Home . The two sheet poster advertises the movie as Home Run King and pictures Babe in a reversed right handed swinging pose. The police stamp on the lower half indicates that the poster was authorized to be displayed between November 27 and December 5, 1921. Ruth's first silent film, Headin' Home was released in the United States in October of 1920. Japanese titles often varied from American titles. Poster also advertises a second feature a baseball drama featuring Charles Ray in The Hot Ball Flies (rough translation) which is either the Charles Ray film, The Busher from 1919 or The Pinch Hitter from 1917. The poster has a small three inch triangle neatly cut from the lower right hand corner, a practice which gave the shopkeeper who displayed the poster a free pass to see the film. A translation of the poster reveals, For three days beginning December 2 ... a baseball drama...featuring home run king Babe Ruth..."Home Run King"...Narrator - Ichikawa Mujo . Inside the baseball it reads, White (tickets) 1.00 Yen, blue .70 Yen, red .40 Yen, children - half price . Linen backed 16 x 43 inches.
