A volume from the first edition of the Talmud printed in the renowned printing press of Daniel Bomberg in Venice. Bomberg’s edition was the first printed edition of the complete Babylonian Talmud. This famous edition became a common basis for all subsequent editions of the Talmud. It introduced the "tzurat hadaf" (the layout of the page), and the pagination still in use today. On leaves 43 and 107 are sections about Jesus which were omitted in the following editions of the Talmud following censorship orders. On the first leaf is a signature. Short handwritten notations of sources and references, by several writers. 2-62, 64-129, [1] leaves. Lacking title page, replaced with facsimile. Approximately 32 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains and dampstains. Restored worming. Restored tears. New elaborate leather binding.
