Lot details By Bankozan, signed Bankozan Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Of baluster shape, finely potted and painted with a deep cobalt-blue ground embellished with gilt plants and mon-emblems save for two large central reserves painted in polychrome enamels and rich gilt depicting idyllic figural scenes and cherry blossoms in full bloom. Signed within a gilt reserve BANKOZAN below the Shimazu crest mark. The artist produced fine quality work in the style of Kinkozan and is rarely encountered. HEIGHT 46 cm Condition: Excellent condition with only very minor wear and rubbing to gilt. Provenance: Austrian private collection, purchased at Dorotheum Auctions, Vienna, in the 1990s. Old inventory number to the underside.
