Fred R. Hamlin Presents The Wizard of Oz Musical Extravaganza.
New York: Majestic Theatre, 1904]. 28 pp. 4to (255 x 200 mm). Original self-wrappers. Condition : light occasional spotting to back wrapper, date “March 1904” marked in pen on upper margin of front wrapper. Provenance : Fred M. Meyer Collection. rare theater program for the hit broadway musical . This playbill documents the cast and numbers in the famous show on its second Broadway run in March 1904. The Wizard of Oz opened the Majestic Theatre on January 21, 1903. Although it was still packing them in, The Wizard of Oz had to make room for its successor Victor Herbert’s Babes in Toyland that was scheduled to play there in Oct.1903. The Wizard of Oz returned to packed houses in March 1904 and continued its successful second run until January 1905. Photogravure of Byron Studio photograph taken in January 1903 before Lotta Faust joined the cast. Condition : slightly yellowed on reverse. Provenance : Fred M. Meyer Collection. rare pictorial postcard advertising the famous show . One of the highlights of the musical was the first act transformation scene in which the Poppy Field was destroyed by the Good Witch of the North’s snowstorm. This was the only original plot element from the stage show that made it into the script of the famous 1939 MGM motion picture.
