A monumental collection of French coastal charts by ‘the father of hydrography’ Beautemps-Beaupré, chief hydrographer and keeper of the Dépôt de la Marine (predecessor of the Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service) from 1814. He took part in all the important hydrographic labours undertaken during the Empire and the Restoration. Contemporary brown half morocco, marbled paper-covered boards, paneled spines decorated and lettered in gilt (corners and extremities rubbed and worn, some staining to the boards).
