First edition of the complete score of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, considered the most recognisable music ever composed. ‘Beethoven's music sets in motion the machinery of awe, of fear, of terror, of pain, and awakens that infinite yearning which is the essence of the romanticism’ (E.T.A. Large octavo (253 x 160mm). Op. 67, full score, 182 pp., lithographic title, engraved throughout, plate number 4302 (title and first leaf with short marginal tear at gutter, variable soiling and staining throughout, heavier to pp.73-75). Modern leather reusing contemporary marbled-paper covered boards (extremities rubbed). Provenance: Das Bücherkabinett (Hamburg antiquarian book and music dealer, photostat of catalogue description loosely inserted).
