BEETHOVEN, Ludwig van (1770-1827). Autograph note signed ('ganz ihr Beethowen') to 'Liebe[r] Z!' [Nikolaus Zmeskall], n.p. [Vienna], n.d. [perhaps 1811], 7 lines on one page, oblong 4to (132 x 186mm) , cut down from a larger sheet, no watermark, later annotation ('Beethoven', rather smudged) to verso.

[perhaps 1811], 7 lines on one page, oblong 4to (132 x 186mm) , cut down from a larger sheet, no watermark, later annotation ('Beethoven', rather smudged) to verso. 'Ich bitte sie mir das Quartett von [a?] spätestens gegen 4 uhr diesen Nachmittags zu schicken, da ich es nothwendig brauche, falls ihr Bedienter niemand bey mir findet soll er's zur Haußmeisterin unten nur geben' [Please send me the quartet by [a?] at the latest by 4 o'clock this afternoon, as I need it urgently, if your servant finds no one at home he should simply leave it with the landlady]. No.539a in the Briefwechsel Gesamtausgabe , vol.2 (Munich, 1996), where it is speculated that the composer of the quartet may be Léopold Aimon, to whom Beethoven wrote on 20 June 1811, thanking him for his proposed dedication of a string quartet.
