Britain's treaty with China in 1842 allowing her access only to ports south of Canton led to this Admiralty surveying voyage which covered Singapore, Borneo, Hong Kong, Macao, the Philippines, Celebes, Moluccas, Formosa and the Ryukyus, Japan and Korea's Quelpart Island, all finely illustrated.
