BENNETT, Arnold (1867-1931). The Loot of Cities. Being the Adventures of a Millionaire in Search of Joy (A Fantasia). London: Alston Rivers, [1905]. 8 o. Original terra cotta cloth, black-lettered on front cover and spine (some soiling and wear along joints); cloth folding case. Provenance : Ernest Marten Smith (signature on front free endpaper). FIRST EDITION. Cecil Thorold, "the millionaire in search of joy... is a curious character -- combination criminologist, promoter, and Robin Hood... The volume of these opulent operations is unaccountably obscure: actually it is a book of unusual interest, both as an example of Bennett's early work and as an early example of dilettante detectivism" ( Queen's Quorum 34).
