Bentley cars were purchased by Rolls-Royce in 1931 when production was moved from London to Derby and later to Crewe, the company was subsequently sold to the Volkswagen Group in 1998. The business is still based in Crewe with their main vehicle production facilities located there. The Eight was Bentley's 'entry-level' offering from 1984 until 1992 with a total of 1,736 Bentley Eights produced. Distinguished mainly by a wire-mesh grille radiator instead of vertical slats, the Eight also had somewhat less equipment than the Mulsanne on which it was based. Firmer suspension offered slight handling improvements; the Bentley Eight was so popular that sales expanded from the original UK market to Europe and the United States. Basic specification included cloth upholstery, steel wheels and a mesh grille. Fuel injection and anti-lock brakes were added in 1986. Leather upholstery and power memory seats became standard in 1987 along with automatic ride height adjustment in 1990. Originally registered on 1 st February 1990, the current vendor has enjoyed ownership of this Bentley for 21 years, purchasing it on 12 th July 1991. Throughout his stewardship, the car has been well cared for and maintained; by a marque specialist in latter years, and the odometer reading of 69,871 miles is believed to be correct.
