BIBLE, Romansch. La Sacra Bibla; quai ais Tuotla Sancta Scrittra: in la quala sun comprais tuots Cudeschs dal Velg è Nouf Testamaint: Cun l'aggiunta dall'Apocrofa . Scuol: Jacob Dorta à Vulpera, 1679. Three parts in one volume, 2° (305 x 205mm). First title printed in red and black within woodcut border (torn and repaired), second title within border of typographic ornaments, title to Prophets within typographic border, title to New Testament within woodcut border, woodcut and typographic initials, head- and tailpieces, final blanks PPP6 to first part and ZZ6 to second part. (Tear in EE2 of first part and OOOO5 in last part without loss, a few other minor tears, some leaves rather soiled and waterstained.) Contemporary blindstamped calf, covers with brass centre- and cornerpieces (one lacking from lower cover, spine in compartments (old repairs, slightly rubbed, upper hinge split, lacks one clasp). First edition of the whole Bible in Romansch, in the Lower Engadine dialect, translated from Hebrew and Greek by Jacob Dorta and J.A. Vulpius, and according to Lonchamp 330 the first book printed at Scuol. Darlow & Moule 7688.
