Second edition (identical to the first 1663 edition with old title cancelled, removed, and replaced with a new one), A-Z8, Aa8, illustrated with three folding copper-plate engravings after the text, bound in full contemporary English sheepskin, ruled in blind, loss of leather due to biopredation along bottom edge of both boards and spine, neat English ownership inscription dated 1676 on ffep, "Tim. [or Jim.] Redman Aedis/Christi Alumnus," 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 in. Wing B-3108A; ESTC R172985; rare, one U.S. copy of this edition [Yale]; one U.S. copy of the first edition [Folger]; no copies at auction. An attractive copy of Blaeu's 17th-century handbook contrasting Ptolemaic and Copernican knowledge of the cosmos and the use of terrestrial and celestial globes.
