Three engraved charts after William Harrison, engraved by J. Walker (2 folding) and one engraved plan of the Bounty's launch (some spotting, some creasing to folded plates). Late 19th-century calf, marbled boards (joints rubbed). Provenance : R. Stood (contemporary transcription on inserted leaf at front of letters from Lt. Edward Riou relating to the loss of his ship, the Guardian in 1790; his? manuscript list of the crew aboard the Bounty tipped to last leaf); William Herbert, Earl and Baron of Powis (bookplate). FIRST EDITION OF THIS FAMOUS MUTINY AND VOYAGE. "In the course of this hazardous journey Bligh took the opportunity to chart and name parts of the unknown north-east coast of New Holland as he passed along it" (Wantrup, p.128). The chart of the "NE Coast of New Holland" was first published in this edition. The present copy is embellished by a contemporary's account of the loss of the Guardian , under the command of Edward Riou, and a manuscript list of the mutineer's aboard the Bounty at end.
