BÖCKLER, Georg Andreas (1644-?1687). Architectura curiosa nova . Nuremberg: Christoph Gerhard for Paul Fürsten, [no date, preface dated 1644]. 4 parts in one volume, 2° (345 x 228mm). Additional engraved title by Abraham Aubry, general title printed in red and black within wide woodcut border, each part with separate title, 200 engraved plates, including one folding. (Plates 11 and 100 in pt. III lightly affected by waterstaining, otherwise just occasional minor marginal waterstaining throughout, very light finger-soiling.) Contemporary marbled calf, spine with raised bands, decorated gilt in compartments, morocco lettering-piece (small chip at foot of spine, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance : Duke of Mouchy (bookplate of the Castle Library). FIRST EDITION IN LATIN , printed in the same year as the first edition in German. Boeckler was a German architect and engineer, who specialised in hydraulic architecture. The beautiful plates depict numerous fountains, water jets, garden fountains, gardens, mazes and palaces.
