Boethius's De consolatione philosophiae Jean Du Pré, not after 1489 BOETHIUS (c.477-524). De consolatione philosophiae. –PSEUDO-BOETHIUS. De disciplina scholarium. [Lyons: Jean Du Pré (printer of Lyons), not after 1489.] Scarce early edition of Boethius's great work. This edition includes the De disciplina scholarium, a popular and rather raunchy guide for schoolboy pedagogy which was frequently attributed to Boethius. Only two other copies in America according to ISTC. Pell 2511; GW 4553; Walsh 3777; Goff B-795; ISTC ib00795000. Median quarto (243 x 155mm). 176 leaves. Woodcut initials with yellow washes, yellow capital strokes, woodcut printer’s device on first leaf (washed and toned, dampstaining and soiling, D7-8 with hole and tear through text). 19th-century reversed deerskin (headcap loose, some wear and discoloration). Provenance: heavily annotated (washed and some trimmed) – acquired from Menno Hertzberger and Co, Amsterdam, 18 May 1966.
