BOONE, DANIEL. Manuscript document signed ("Daniel Boone C Lt"), countersigned by W. McConnell, [Fayette County], [23 November 1782]. 1 page, oblong 8vo, 51 x 198 mm. (2 x 7 in.), minor browning, handsomely matted and framed with an engraving of Boone . In February of 1778, Boone and the party he was leading were captured by The Shawnee Indians. He was adopted into the tribe and taken as far as Detroit. Boone later managed to escape, returning to Boonesborough in time to warn the settlers of a massive attack planned by the Indians. The expedition mentioned in this note was one of subsequent conflicts following that attack: "I so certify that a horse the Property of Benjamin Netherland was in Public Service for the Use of my company of Fayette Milita on the late expedition against the Shawnees commanded by B[rigadier] General Clarke from the 24th day of October until the 23rd day of November 1782, being in the whole 31 days."
