[BRITISH ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION]. WRIGHT, Charles Seymour (1887-1975) and R.E. Priestley (1886-1974). British (Terra Nova) Antarctic Expedition, 1910-1913. Glaciology. London: Harrison and Sons for the Committee of the Captain Scott Antarctic Fund, 1922. 4to. 47 plates with 291 photographs and illustrations by Ponting, Wright, Priestly, and others, folding map, numerous illustrations in the text, 15 folding maps in rear pocket. Original red-violet pebbled cloth, spine lettered in gilt (spine gently sunned, light rubbing at corners, discrete evidence of library call number on spine). Provenance: Derby Technical College (stamps on half-title verso, title-page and pastedown); Captain Richard Campbell (bookplate). FIRST EDITION. “A Canadian by birth, Wright performed extensive work as a physicist on Scott’s last expedition (though he is better known today as the man who first sighted the tent where Scott and his companions died). The resulting volume should also be better known, as it is the most extensively illustrated of all the Terra Nova publications, with photography from practically every camera used on the expedition, including many of Ponting’s most stunning pictures” (Taurus). Renard 186; Rosove 293-8.A1; Spence 1284; Taurus 89.
