An important first-hand account of the late stages of the prolonged military and naval struggles between the Netherlands and Portugal over the enormous territory of present-day Brazil. The text comprises Van de Broeck's journal from June 1645 and August 1646. The warfare reached a peak in the 1640s, but the Dutch ultimately relinquished all claims by treaty in 1654.
