Davies, 1799, engraved frontispiece after Luigi Mayer 2 folding maps, 1 plan, half-title discarded, toning, offsetting, a few spots, contemporary bookseller's ticket (Congdon, Plymouth), contemporary tree calf, rebacked, 4to (26.3 x 20.2 cm), together with: Sonnini de Manoncourt (Charles Nicolas Sigisbert), Travels undertaken in Upper and Lower Egypt, 2nd edition in English, for J. Debrett, 1800, engraved portrait frontispiece, folding map, 27 plates, half-title discarded, frontispiece offset, marginal spotting to plates, modern calf, 4to (26.9 x 20.9 cm) (Qty: 2) Blackmer 219 & 1573; Cox I pp. 394 & 395. '[Browne's] important work contains the earliest information in English about Darfur (Sudan). Browne ... was the first Englishman to explore the temple of Jupiter Ammon at the Oasis of Siwa' (Blackmer). This translation of Sonini de Manoncourt's work is by William Combe, author of Doctor Syntax; another English translation had appeared the previous year.
