Full vellum with bevelled edges, gilt-ruled and lettered, (inner hinge weak, spine darkened). THIRD PRINT. Penzer p.165-166 [Richard Francis BURTON]. Ananga-Ranga ; (Stage of the Bodiless One) or, The Hindu Art of Love. Translated from the Sanscrit, and Annotated by A.F.F & B.F.R Cosmopoli: for the Kama Shastra Society, 1885. 8° (201 x 148mm.) White cloth, gilt-lettered spine, (covers a little soiled). RARE FIRST REPRINT of the first issue 1873 which consisted of 4 or 6 copies only as the printer, on reading the proofs, 'became alarmed' and refused to continue printing. This binding not described by Penzer but the issue conforms with his First Reprint in all other respects. The Perfumed Garden of the Cheikh Nefzaoui. A Manual of Arabian Erotology (XVI. Century). Revised and Corrected Translation. Cosmopoli: 1886. Original full vellum with bevelled edges, titled and ruled in gilt. SECOND EDITION. One of only two issues truly by the Society, first issued in parts the same year. Burton intended a second edition but on his death, Isabel burned his manuscript. Penzer p.173-174. The Behâristân (Abode of Spring) By Jâmi. Benares: 1887. Original full vellum ruled in blind, spine lettered and ruled in gilt, (somewhat darkened). FIRST EDITION, SOLE ISSUE. Penzer p. 177. [and:] The Gulistân or Rose Garden of Sa'di. Benares: 1888. Original full vellum ruled in blind, spine lettered and ruled in gilt. FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE. Penzer p.177. Together with 5 further copies of Kama Shastra Society titles including a pirated edition, Paris or Brussels, and two first French editions. These five titles were all that the Society issued. 'Arabian Nights' is not generally counted amongst them. (10)
