Upper hinge cracked, spine slightly darkened and soiled, an unrelated contemporary inscription to foot of half-title. Henry Harrison (d. 1991) was a meteorologist who accompanied Rear Adm. Richard E. Byrd on his first Antarctic expedition in 1929-30. He has inscribed this volume at a later date " ... from Henry Harrison, Aerologist BAE I 1928-1930 ... I am one of 5 survivors of the Winter Party of 42 at Little America in 1929" and has listed the names of each of the five men in block letters. Harrison has also annotated several pages and photographs within the book where he is mentioned (about 10 times) including a near-miss during an avalanche in which Byrd recalled "High up on the Barrier was a man clinging to a thread of rope, his feet dangling helplessly in empty space. I recognized him as Harrison." C
