Circa 1943-44. A slide action shotgun manufactured under World War II US military contract. The cylinder choked 20" dull blue finish steel barrel is fit at the muzzle end with a plum-purplish color steel "S" marked (Stevens) bayonet adaptor and polished blue handguard/heat shield assembly. The "S" is found on the left side of the adaptor and the adaptor also incorporates a hole in the rear face like the Winchester bayonet adaptor for the magazine cap which is not used on the Stevens. The handguard/heat shield assembly has 6 rows of 29 holes and is spot welded (3 visible) to the bayonet adaptor. The end of the barrel on the bayonet adaptor has a brass front bead sight. The right side of the barrel is marked "J STEVENS ARMS COMPANY / DIVISON OF SAVAGE ARMS CORPORATION / CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A." and a "P" (Proof Mark) and US Ordnance Department "(Flaming Bomb)" cartouche just in front of the receiver. The left side of the barrel is marked "PROOF TESTED-12 GAUGE 2 3/4 INCH CHAMBER-" and a "P" proof mark is found to the left front side of the barrel ahead of the receiver with the same "P" mark found on the top left front of the receiver. The dull blue finish receiver is marked on the left side just behind the barrel with another "P" and the US Ordnance Department "Flaming Bomb" cartouche, "MODEL 620" and "U.S." just above the blued single trigger with crossbolt safety retaining its red color. Just ahead of the loading port is the gun's serial number "27550" and on the front of the integrated trigger guard "US" in a vertical orientation. Matching serial number "27550" on receiver's left side wall and "50" on the trigger assembly where the receiver abuts the head of the stock. The uncheckered pistol hand grip American walnut stock is fit with a sling swivel that screws to the stock with a portion of the stock where the swivel is attached slightly routed out and a black plastic serrated buttplate. The head of the stock has matching serial number "27550". The forend like the buttstock is uncheckered. CONDITION: Very good. Barrel with approximately 85% original blue. Bayonet adaptor with use/storage marks and handguard/heatshield with slight use/storage marks. Bluing on bottom tube rubbed from the forend assembly cycling of the action. Stock and forend with use/storage marks. The rifle currently has a Boyt leather sling attached. A great gun to add to your collection.
