Beschreibung:

MARC AUREL AN DER LEICHE CÄSARS Öl auf Leinwand. 73 x 94 cm. Verso Stempel einer Münchener Malmittelfirma „A. Schutzmann München (ab 1844)“. Ohne Rahmen.
Großformatige Ölskizze als Vorarbeit für ein noch größerformatiges Gemälde. (10112110) (11) Carl Theodor von Piloty, 1826 Munich - 1886 Ambach/ Lake Starnberg, attributed MARC AUREL BY THE CORPSE OF CAESAR Oil on canvas. 73 x 94 cm. Verso stamp of the Munich paint material company “A. Schutzmann München (ab 1844)”. Without frame. Painted virtuosically on canvas. Chronologically the painting should be close to the painting “Seni by the Corpse of Wallenstein” from 1855. In 1865 Piloty created the subject-related painting “The Death of Caesar”, here too the two colours white and red strongly dominate against a dark background (Lower Saxony State Museum).
