with imprint of "Claflin's, Worchester, Mass." This is the unsigned companion view to Lot 473. sold in the June 8-10, 2005 Historic Americana Sale. A Danish immigrant who had twice been wounded fighting Prussians in the Schleswig-Holstein War, Jorgenson enlisted as a Sergeant in Company A., 15th Massachusetts and was wounded a third time at Ball's Bluff in October 1861. By Gettysburg, Jorgenson had assumed the Captaincy of Company A. In an earnest letter dated June 30th he prophesized, "There is no doubt as to the result of this battle. Give my love to all my friends, and tell them the old Fifteenth is still gaining laurels, and by the time we get home we shall be completely covered in glory." Captain Jorgenson was killed in action on July 2 near the Codori House on the Emmitsburg Road. The adopted son was buried with full military honors accorded a patriot at home in Leominster, Mass. on July 23rd. Condition: Carte VG+. with a few minor spots on field, good corners.
