CECIL, Robert, 1st Earl of Salisbury (1563-1613). Autograph letter signed to Mr Skinner, 'From ye Court this Saterday night at 12 of clock ye 22 June 1594', one page, folio , integral address leaf, contemporary endorsements, traces of seal (edges frayed, repaired in left margin not affecting text). An order sent at the Queen's command, for Skinner to reduce the payment to David Foulis from four to three thousand pounds, for the pension paid to the King of Scotland (James VI): 'This my letter shall be your sufficient warrant w[hi]ch you should have receavyd from my L[ord] now, but yt his L[ordship] is in bed asleep, and yt the q[ueen] wyll not have him trobled'. James VI, by the treaty concluded at Berwick on 5 July 1586, allied himself to England in return for a pension of £4,000 per year from Elizabeth.
