CHARLES DICKENS (1812-1870) Autograph letter, signed 'Charles Dickens', from Gad's Hill Place, Higham by Rochester, Kent, 'Saturday twenty second December 1866', 2pp, 8, to Sir Charles Russell thanking him for his information regarding George's appointment 'as the dear fellow is ill I think it better on the whole not to write to him just now' and sends his 'cordial congratulations on his good fortune. It is a perfect Christmas Day ..., and thoroughly delights me.' He goes on to tell of his youngest daughter who is getting better from an illness although 'I fear she will not be strong enough to bear removal here before Tuesday, but I hope we shall get her down before the old year is out', and concludes with 'seasonable wishes towards your house and yours.
