Charles III (Philip Arthur George, 1948-). King of the United Kingdom, 2022-, formerly Prince of Wales. Autograph Letter Signed, 'Charles', Klosters, Switzerland, 4 January 1997, to Constantine II and his wife Anne-Marie- thanking them for the wonderful Christmas present, a bottle of white truffle oil which 'makes the whole difference for so many dishes', thanking them again and also for the little bottle to put the oil in, continuing to say how deeply moved and affected he was by the remarkable Christening service in Istanbul, 'It had such profound symbolism and meaning to it', explaining how 'the liturgy of the Greek Orthodox church means a great deal to me as I grow older, a little wiser perhaps and infinitely out of sympathy with the loathsome political correctness of the Church of England', then turning to skiing and hoping that they are having a good time in Gstaad before saying of his own skiing that 'Harry has been overtaking me on a daily basis, his one ambition seemingly to break the sound barrier while adopting a permanent "Schuss" position and how he as an ageing parent is then incapable of further movement the following day, 'Oh, to be young again to deal with teenagers!', 3 pages in black fountain pen ink on Sandringham House letterhead, 4to, original envelope addressed to King Constantine of the Hellenes at their address in London with signed initial 'C' lower left, without stamp or franking marks (Quantity: 2) After the Greek monarchy was abolished in 1973, King Constantine and his family came to live in London, where they were close friends with members of the British royal family. Constantine was a godfather to William, Prince of Wales. This year was the first time that King Charles III cancelled his annual skiing trip to Klosters for the first time in 45 years.
