Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1982
8 bottles per lot
Dear Client, Welcome to our Hamptons sale - the first NYWinesChristie's wine auction to take place in this quintessential East Coast summer retreat. We're delighted you've joined us, either as a new client keen to stock up for the coming season of entertainment and relaxation, or as a seasoned buyer. If you're here for the day, we encourage you to join us at the majestic Atwater estate and enjoy the surrounding waters of Quantuck Bay - and if you're preparing your bids ahead of sale, we look forward to working with you. Our specialist team is on hand to help you with any queries you may have. This sale has it all - cases of solid, blue-chip and young Bordeaux ready to lay down for another day, older classics ready for enjoying now, a selection of 19th century wines for the connoisseur who relishes the pull of an ancient cork - and of course, a wide selection of fine wines from across the world, in manageable lot sizes that should entice those new to the wine auction scene to raise their paddles, win some wine and savor with friends over the summer. Buying wine at auction can be great fun - and much easier than the novice may think! Of particular note for new bidders are three collections that offer a veritable menagerie of fine wines from across three continents - these selections can be found from lots 164 to 261, 380 to 507, and 614 to 743 and include well-priced lots from Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhône Valley, Champagne, Alsace, Spain, Italy, Germany, California, Portugal, Australia, and Austria. Finally, we're delighted to offer a rare magnum of Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 1929 champagne released this year to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Academy Awards ceremony and Moët & Chandon's first year as the exclusive champagne of the Oscars (lot 141). The bottle's wooden case has been autographed by Hollywood celebrities and Oscars attendees, and proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit the Motion Picture & Television Fund, a leading Hollywood charity. We invite you to raise a glass at its appearance at the rostrum, and we invite you to participate, enjoy and savor an early summer afternoon wine auction tailored for the easier days that lay just ahead. Good luck, enjoy the coming season - and cheers! Rik Pike Wine Specialist A SUPERLATIVE OFFERING OF BORDEAUX GREATS AND BENCHMARK NAPA VALLEY MANY OFFERED IN CASE LOT QUANTITIES The opening consignment (lots 1-140) comes from one of the most immaculate cellars Christie's specialists have ever set eyes on. Across the board and without exception, the wines are in excellent condition. Almost entirely in original wooden cases, this offering represents a great opportunity to acquire Bordeaux and California wines in near as pristine a condition as one is likely to find.
