Château Margaux--Vintage 1986 Margaux, 1er cru classé In original wooden cases except lot 195 Tasting Note: Always such a joy to taste in cask. I was fortunate enough to have three dips, first in the June after the vintage, bowled over by the fruit, flesh and spice which tended to make one overlook a certain austerity and tannic content. A masculine Margaux. Half a dozen recent notes, two at the Wagner Margaux vertical. At the first (1997) raw, hard, spicy; assertive, concentrated. In 1998, blind, nose like wet cobnuts; distinctly raw again. In March 2000 at a Margaux dinner at Brook's: though very fragrant, severe on the palate and hard-edged, lean and pinched. The roast beef did not do much for it. Eight months later at Wagner's second tasting, a distinctly better note. Still opaque and youthful looking: crisp fruit, opening up beautifully; sweet, lovely fruit, attractive but very tannic. Last tasted Nov 2000 *(***)? Give it lots of time M.B. 12 bottles per lot
