CHELONIIDAE PRESS -- Mark TWAIN. The Jumping Frog . Easthampton: Cheloniidae Press, 1985. 8° (215 x 140mm). Printed in green and black. 15 engravings by Alan James Robinson and an original drawing and 2 additional suites, one of these in multiple states, with all the engravings signed and inscribed by the artist. Original tan morocco by Daniel E. Kelm, with onlays of frogs on the covers and pastedowns, regular issue in the original printed wrappers, and extra-suites loose as issued in the original paper chemises, original cloth box and chemise with printed paper label on spine. Provenance : Daniel and Mimi Elkind (pencilled inscriptions from the ?artist, one 'with much appreciation'). COPY V OF V ARTIST'S PROOFS OF THE DELUXE ISSUE, finely bound by Daniel Kelm and with a copy of the regular issue, both with all the engravings signed or initialed by the artist, and with an original drawing and two additional suites of engravings, one of these in multiple states, all signed by the artist and inscribed to Arnold and Mimi Elkind. This remarkable production 'contains three versions of this notorious and celebrated tale, the original (1865), translated into French, and then "restored to the English after martyrdom in the French"' (colophon).
