Tribulations of Mr. Tumble, For Children: from Ten to Sixty, twenty-eight large pen, ink, and watercolour illustrations on thick paper, including title-page and colophon, depicting humourous hunting scenes and mishaps, each signed (except final leaf), image size 25 x 38cm (10 x 15ins), sheet size 38 x 51cm (15 x 20ins), tissue guards, loosely contained in original cardboard folder with floral fabric spine, lettered on front cover 'Mr. Tumble. 26 Planches', marked and some wear, oblong folio, together with a photocopy of a 28pp. typescript entitled 'Tribulations of Mr. Tumble', plus fourteen other pen & ink and pencil sketches on thick paper of horses, including polo, racing, hunting, street scenes, chariot racing, one signed, most with pencil captions in French to lower margin below image, occasional light spotting and one or two closed tears to blank margins, image size 16 x 26cm (6.25 x 10.25ins), sheet size 25.5 x 35cm (10 x 13.75ins), plus a 10pp. typescript in English by A.E. Bernard entitled 'White Cap. Souvenirs d'un Pony' An explanatory card text leaf, in both French and English, precedes the illustrations: 'Mr. Tumble, still one of the "Old Stock" who does not get discouraged to follow during the various hunting-days the pack, even, as it is shown in this book, he has had more than 20 falls in one hunting season alone. Fine Fellow, that Mr. Tumble!'. The humourous tale is written as if by Mr. Tumble's horse, Dick, and the comical watercolours are skilfully executed. (a folder)
