The Nursery "Alice" Containing Twenty Coloured Enlargements from Tenniel's Illustrations to "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", with Text Adapted to Nursery Readers by Lewis Carroll the Cover Designed and Coloured by E. Gertrude Thomson, [1st American edition, hospital copy], Macmillan, 1889, colour illustrations, heavily spotted and soiled, tears to frontispiece and pp. 27/28 with loss, further marginal splits and fraying, rectangular ink presentation stamp to half-title (heavily browned), 'Presented by the author for the use of sick children, July 1890' and with a contemporary child's ownership inscription beside, numerous pencil and some coloured pencils and watercolour doodles and scribbles to leaves at front and rear, contemporary brown linen cloth with a string loop attached, rubbed and soiled, spine frayed and partly detached, 4to, together with 4 further editions of the same work, 2nd [1st published] edition, 1890, People's Edition, 1891, 2nd (cheap) issue, 1896 and facsimile edition, Tokyo, 1981, all original linen-backed pictorial boards, soiling and wear to 1891 & 1896 copies, all 4to Williams, Madan, Green and Crutch 216, etc. For the hospital copy see Goodacre, Jabberwocky, Summer 1994, p. 34.
