Circa early to mid-19th century album containing 60 well executed pen, ink and watercolour sketches of Indian sub-continent (mainly Lahore, modern-day Pakistan) palaces, architectural views; rulers, Maharajahs, Kings; women, Maharani?; pastimes, trades and tradespeople etc, each approx size 145 x 190mm, many with contemporary manuscript captions, from the collection of James Princep (1799-1840), final sketch with his inscription in pencil and signed in initials “drawn by a native artist JP”, this sketch depicting Maharajah Ranjit Singh (1780-1839), other sketches include Mughal era Lahore fort, Samadhi of Ranjit Singh, Lahore; Tomb of Jahangir, Lahore; Sunehri Masjid, Lahore; Shalimar Gardens, Lahore; Maharajah Sher Singh (1807-1843); Gulab Singh (1792-1857); various dancing girls including “Hindoostan dancing girl”, “Punjab dancing girl”, “Cashmere dancing girl”, “Kabul dancing girl”, various trades etc including jeweller, toy seller, “Ganjah worker”, man wrestling bear, “Opium taker and worker”, “cultivating”, “shawl makers, cashmere”, “sweetmeat seller”, “flower seller”, “milk seller”, distillers, butter seller, jugglers, gold silk manufacture etc, blind stamped calf
