Lot of 8 sixth plate images, including sixth plate tintype of young, bearded soldier with name inscribed in plate, "Albert W. Vermillion." Vermillion served as a private with Co. G of the 18th Missouri Infantry. Housed in half case. Sixth plate tintype of soldier with bushy beard, with small note behind plate identifying the subject as Thomas F. Gibbs, who served with Co. K of the 20th Maine Infantry. Housed in full case. Sixth plate tintype of seated soldier with modern typed tag identifying subject as William Maring, Corporal, Co. G of the 130th New York Volunteers. No period identification accompanies the image, so we cannot confirm this ID. The 130th NYVI reorganized to the 19th NY Cavalry, then converted to the 1st NY Dragoons. In looking at the personnel for this unit, there is no William Maring, but there is a William Manning (or Maning). Manning was a Corporal in Co. G, and we suspect this is the same person. Sixth plate tintype of a "baby-faced" soldier, gilt highlighting on his buttons. Another sixth plate tintype of a Union soldier has gilt buttons and tinted cheeks. A sixth plate tintype in a Union case (thermoplastic) is of a cavalry sergeant (crossed swords on his hat). The last two could be Confederate. One has "7th Virginia" written on the case behind the image. The jacket is dark, but it has a standing collar and the soldier wears a Hardee hat. A few cracks to the emulsion. The last shows a man in a light shell jacket with a standing collar. No other identification visible. In separated full case; cracking of emulsion on left half (but none peeling). Provenance:Estate of Dr. WM Bogdanowicz
