Jeffers, Son of Aaron Perley Jeffers." Housed in full thermoplastic case. Accompanied by 5.75 x 6.75 in. crocheted American flag. Charles Jeffers enlisted at the age of 21 and mustered into Co. A, 9th New Hampshire Volunteers on July 10, 1862 as a private; he was promoted to corporal, then sergeant in March 1865 before mustering out in June 1865. Uncased quarter plate, lightly hand-tinted ruby ambrotype of an unidentified captain seated in a studio setting, with his cap showing the infantry bugle insignia and officer's sword displayed on the table beside him. Housed under mat and cover glass. Condition: Ninth plate with light tarnish ring around perimeter; otherwise very fine condition; case with some wear, light chips along edges. Quarter plate uncased, a touch dark, but details still visible. Good contrast. Some light spotting. Light tarnish ring along perimeter where plate meets mat.
