Lot of 3, including ninth plate, lightly hand-tinted ruby ambrotype of a young soldier holding his cap in hand with the infantry bugle insignia over the letter "A" visible on top, accompanied by inked note identifying the subject as "Chas. Jeffers, Son of Aaron Perley Jeffers." Housed in full thermoplastic case. Accompanied by 5.75 x 6.75 in. crocheted American flag. Charles Jeffers enlisted at the age of 21 and mustered into Co. A, 9th New Hampshire Volunteers on July 10, 1862 as a private; he was promoted to corporal, then sergeant in March 1865 before mustering out in June 1865. Uncased quarter plate, lightly hand-tinted ruby ambrotype of an unidentified captain seated in a studio setting, with his cap showing the infantry bugle insignia and officer's sword displayed on the table beside him. Housed under mat and cover glass. Condition: Ninth plate with light tarnish ring around perimeter; otherwise very fine condition; case with some wear, light chips along edges. Quarter plate uncased, a touch dark, but details still visible. Good contrast. Some light spotting. Light tarnish ring along perimeter where plate meets mat.
