Lot of 5 CDVs, featuring: Swedish-American engineer Captain John Ericsson (1803-1889), who designed and built the Monitor, the first naval ironclad vessel, which engaged the CSS Merrimack in the historic Hampton Roads naval battle of 1862. With C.D. Fredricks & Co., NY imprint and date of 1861. Commodore John A. Winslow (1811-1873) commander of the USS Kearsarge, and victor in the famed battle with the Confederate raider Alabama commanded by Raphael Semmes, which was sunk off Cherbourg in 1864. With J.W. Black, Boston, MA and Newport, RI imprint. Uncredited carte of Samuel DuPont (1803-1865), American naval officer and rear admiral. Gustavus Fox (1821-1883), Assistant Secretary of the Navy during the Civil War. With C.D. Fredricks & Co., NY imprint. Studio portrait of "John Jones USN," with T.R. Burnham, Boston imprint. Condition: DuPont carte trimmed. Wear to perimeter of Ericsson CDV. Spotting on Jones CDV.
