Title: "Climb the Mountains...", small 1904 broadside Author: Muir, John Place: San Francisco Publisher: Paul Elder & Co. Date: June 1904 Description: Illuminated “Impressions Broadside No. 5”, designed by W.S. Wright as frontispiece in Impressions Quarterly, Vol.5, No. 2. 7.25 x 10”. The Art-and-Crafts era periodical was issued by the San Francisco publishers for three years as a venue for California literati. This issue also included a review of Mary Austin’s “Land of Little Rain” and an essay on Ina Coolbrith by George Wharton James The Muir quote was from his 1901 “Our National Parks”. William Spencer “Billy” Wright, who designed the Elder broadsides, was a San Francisco bookbinder and bookplate artist who also painted cartoon panels for the pre-Earthquake Coppa’s Restaurant. Uncommon Muir ephemera. Lot Amendments Condition: Front and rear covers of the periodical detached but present, not affecting broadside. Item number: 247715
