COLLECTION OF ENAMELLED ANTIQUE JEWELS, SILVER AND GILT, LATE 19TH CENTURY-EARLY 20TH CENTURY1st: Six enamel, silver and silver gilt brooches and one silver gilt pendant in the Kate Greenaway style, depicting children and seaside scenes, 2nd: Seven enamel and silver floral brooches, depicting various flowers, including forget-me-nots and primroses, 3rd: Three enamel and silver lockets, depicting daffodils, rose and dog roses, 4th: Enamel and silver floral bangle, depicting a bouquet of lily of the valley and forget-me-nots, 5th: Enamel and silver floral earrings, depicting dog roses and forget-me-nots, 6th: Arts and Crafts lapis lazuli-set foliate hoop earrings, lengths: 1st 2.5-3.8cm, 2nd: 3.0-5.0cm, 3rd: 5.3-5.6cm, 4th inner circumference approx. 16.5cm, 5th: 3.1cm, 6th 2.9cm (20)FootnotesKate Greenaway (1846-1901) was an illustrator, writer and member of the Aesthetic movement. She produced several children's books in collaboration with Edmund Evans including The Birthday Book (1880) and The language of Flowers (1884). She is best known for her illustrations of charming but dispirited children dressed in Regency costume. The original Kate Greenaway illustration, depicted on one of the enamel brooches, featuring a young girl and boy atop a rock at the seaside, is one of 22 illustrations to The Girl's Own Paper that may be seen in the Victoria & Albert Department of Prints and Drawings Accessions 1953 London: HMSO, 1963. Accession number E.2441-1953.
