Beschreibung:

Large lot of more than 120 items related to the decades long history of NASA and space exploration. The expansive collection roughly spans NASA's 1963 Mercury 9 space flight and runs through the 1995 docking of Russia's Space Station Mir with America's Space Shuttle Atlantis. Most items are organized into thematic groupings then matted together. Thematic groupings feature approximately 3-7 items and are typically organized by astronaut and spaceflight mission, however, NASA scientists, other types of spacecraft (lunar orbiters and space probes), and US Naval Recovery Force paraphernalia also are present in the collection. Many prominent signatures (majority stamped) including Lt. Col. Virgil Ivan "Gus" Grissom, one of the seven original NASA Project Mercury astronauts who was killed on the January 27, 1967, during an Apollo 1 pre-launch test; Apollo 14 astronaut Alan Shepard, Jr.; John H. Glenn, Jr., Mercury astronaut and the first American to orbit the earth; Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin of Apollo 11; and Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the surface of the moon during the Apollo 11 flight. Objects included in the collection vary, ranging from photographs, covers, commemorative coins, stamps, patches, and even a section from a reentry chute. Condition: Most items are in good condition. Some are permanently matted and with minor soil. Protective plastic covers on some mats are cracked, broken, and/or separated from the mat.
