Collection of Tintypes Author: Place: Unknown Publisher: Unknown photographers Date: Ca. 1860-1880 Description: Collection includes: Oval tintype of young gentleman housed in oval green velvet case. Oval tintype of a young gentleman seated, hands in lap and elbow resting on a table next to two books. Tintype in an oval dark green velvet case. Moltz, Henry [and] Unknown. Four Portraits with Posing Props of Well Dressed Gentlemen. Four Tintypes; One Gem 2x1½" in photographer identified cream colored mount, three 6th plate 3⅜x2½". Gem Tintype bust portrait, cheeks lights tinted pink. Backing to photograph mount 3⅝x2⅜" has advertisement for "Henry Moltz Photograph and Gen Gallery, No. 217 Baltimore Street, Near Charles Street". Includes pricing for various types of photographs. Moltz listed in Baltimore City Directory, 1865-1866. Three portraits with gentlemen standing and posed next to a wooden fence, ornate chair with large oval padded back, ornately carved table with reading material on top. Posing stand can be seen behind portraits with chair and table posing props. Tintype of mother holding young child. Sixteenth plate 1¾x1½", mother holding young child with brass mat and preserver housed in leather case. Musical harp clasp, gold tooling on inside case edges, dark red velvet pad. Tintype of young couple finely dressed, elaborate posing set, posing with tennis racket. Sixth plate (approximately) 3⅜x2⅜" Tintype inserted into paper frame 4⅜x3" bordered in red with folding pink paper cover. Tintype portrait of seated well dressed husband and wife. Quarter plate 4¼x3¼" Tintype, enclosed under brass mat and preserver, encased in covered black wooden case with walking angel motif design. Image not examined outside of case. Total of 8 Tintype images. Lot Amendments Condition: Velvet worn around edges, brass preserver a little dull; very good or better case and image. One with case cover separated, light handling wear, else Near fine images in very good or better cases. Lots sold without reserve are sold “as Is” and are not returnable under any circumstances.
