A critical inquiry into antient armour, as it existed in Europe, but particularly in England, from the Norman conquest to the reign of King Charles II, with a glossary of military terms of the Middle Ages . London: Robert Jennings, 1824. First edition. Three volumes, 19th century three-quarters red morocco with raised bands, marbled sides, all edges gilt. [2], 20, [2], lxxviii, [2], 206 pp.; vi, 297 pp.; vi, 147, [1], [134] pp.; the whole with 80 engraved plates, of which 70 are hand-colored, with historiated hand-colored initials heightened with gold for each chapter throughout. Tear to the foot of the binding on the first volume, all with some degree of wear, but presenting well, some offsetting to the engraved titles and adjacent leaves in each, overall the plates clean and attractive. C
