The archive of the artist ALBERT KLIJN, containing many original drawings and art works (incl. from his childhood) and designs for advertisements, posters, packages, textiles, logos, letterheads and covers and many more, as well as many printed samples, packages, posters and publications designed by the same and correspondence on commissions, ± = The unique and extensive artist's archive of the prolific artist Alb. Klijn. Klijn was educated at the Kunstnijverheidsschool Quellinus in Amsterdam. Klijn started out as a commercial artist and graphic designer and his designs were heavily influenced by the periodical Dutch Wendingen and art nouveau and later Art Deco styles. From the late s he showed more interest in painting and drawing, but continued with commercial design work. This archive contains mostly his commercial art as described above, but there are also various art works and personal items, i.a. photographs, documentation, his wax sealstamp, an oval portrait of ANKIE KLIJN (oil on panel, 55x), original curtain designs (s, gouache on board, both 70x, signed and dated), posters and original poster designs (i.a. REGATA Reclame- en grafische Arbeid tentoonstelling Amsterdam (Col. lithogr. poster, 105x), DE BRUG Kunstenaarsvereniging (linocut en letterpress poster), STEDEBOUW CONGRES TENTOONSTELLING IN HET STEDELIJK MUSEUM (Original design, brush and ink, 94x), poster for the BOEKENWEEK (), Batik designs (i.a. a batik design for a tea cosy (Drawing, pencil and punctured holes, 25x, according to annot. by the artist, the design was executed in ), calendars for G. KOLFF (, designs for frontcovers, glass stained windows, an abstract pastel drawing, woodcuts, an entire illustrated manuscript for a children's book. His commercial art comprises a few hundred original designs, i.a. an original design for the cover of an issue of WENDINGEN ( and many fine Dutch art nouveau and art deco designs for various Dutch companies and institutions, i.a. the city of Amsterdam (i.a. the city's heraldic emblem).
