Translated by William Le Queux. Cloth binding with gilt decoration on cover and spine, gilt title on spine, top gilt. With 212 illustrations in the text, 16 full-page photogravure plates, 2 panoramas and 5 maps. With blindstamps of the 'Young Men's Mercantile Library Association' and numbered in ink '75899' and '75900' on title and again on p. 421. Uncut. First edition. Rebacked with the greater part of the original spines (with defects and remains of library tickets), corners showing, internally a good and complete copy. 346, (6); 702, (4) pp. Artist or Maker: ARCTIC - SAVOY, Luigi Amedeo, H.R.H. Duke of the Abruzzi Notes: Copy from The Mercantile Library of Cincinnati ('the convergence of curiosity and knowledge') with blindstamps of the 'Young Men's Mercantile Library Association', a membership library founded in 1835 in Cincinnati. Although rebound the rear pocket was maintained and contains both loose maps: "The Emperor Franz Josef Archipelago" and the "Arctic Ocean".
