Beschreibung:

Group of 4 black and white photographs, approximately 4½ x 6½ inches, printed captions on verso and credits to photographers Rol and Branger. Together with the official program for the Grande Quinzaine d'Aviation de Paris, printed in red and black throughout, original textured paper wrappers. On October 10, 1909, Charles de Lambert took virtually all the prizes at the Grande Quinzaine d'Aviation. Triumphant, on the 18th he took off and headed towards Paris; flouting the law, he flew over the city—the first time that anyone had done so. Rounding the Eiffel Tower, he headed back to the aerodrome at Juvisy-sur-Orge. His feat was all the more amazing as it was only a few months earlier that he had been taught to fly, by Wilbur Wright at Pau. Comprising: Lambert flying past the judges in plane 19; posing at the helm; a grandstand and milling crowds; at some altitude, behind the signal area / scoreboard.
