Smith 13; Connolly, The Modern Movement , 15. G.F.W. Hope (and his wife) were among Conrad's closest English friends. Conrad first met Hope in London in 1880, and it was through the Hopes that he met his wife Jessie. The Hopes are the dedicatees of Lord Jim (1900). A very good copy of a book rarely found inscribed.
