CORBETT, JIM Jungle Stories. [Naini Tal: London Press, n.d. but before August 1944]. First edition, inscribed by the author. Publisher's printed paper wrappers, preserved in modern clamshell case. 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches; [iv], 104 pp. Backstrip renewed, some creases, chips, and short splits to wrappers, crease to lower margin throughout. Very scarce. One of Corbett's earliest works, apparently one of only 100 copies distributed to friends and family. The contents are: The Pipal Pani Tiger; The Fish of My Dreams; A Lost Paradise; Purna Giri and its Mysterious Lights; The Terror that Walks by Night; Wild Life in the Village: An Appeal; and The Chowgarh Tigers. Inscribed by the author to Mrs. [Henry] White (formerly Mrs. Emily Vanderbilt Sloane), wife of Ambassador Henry White who was a friend of Teddy Roosevelt. Czech, Asia, p. 51.
