Stipple-engraved frontispiece, in two states: avant-lettre on india-paper mounted signed in pencil by the engraver E.Stodart, the second printed in bistre, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH 172 PLATES, 171 BY BARTOLOZZI AND OTHERS AFTER COSWAY, 26 COLOUR-PRINTED, the 1p. holograph copy of Daniell's note (see p.xvi of introduction) and two other related manuscript items. Contemporary half morocco gilt, g.e (text vol.) and morocco gilt, g.e (vol. of plates) (extremities of both vols. scuffed). Provenance : Sir Philip Currie (armorial bookplate); Laurence Currie (armorial bookplates). FIRST EDITION, ONE OF 12 LARGE PAPER COPIES, THIS THE CO-AUTHOR'S COPY. The text is extra-illustrated with 2 photographic reproductions and 48 engravings, mezzotints or etchings, most mounted to size, some trimmed into plate area with loss to imprint; the additional plate volume contains 122 engravings, mezzotints or etchings, most tipped onto their mounts, some trimmed, two mounted onto pastedowns. Most of the prints are in their first states, some are present in up to 4 different states. (2)
